Weather
If there’s one item that can cause us both “grief”, it’s the weather. Try as we may, it can’t be controlled. You have our personal assurance that if weather does foul things up, we will do our absolute utmost to get our guests to or from the Lodge as quickly and efficiently as possible. It should be understood that should your charter flight not operate as scheduled, there are other outfitters who also have charter arrangements on that same aircraft.
For the record, it should be also understood that…
1) If you get stuck in Goose Bay enroute to Park Lake because of the weather, any extra costs incurred are borne by you and your fishing costs remain fixed.
2) If you get stuck at the Lodge and can’t get out because of the weather, the extra cost is borne by us and your package cost again remains fixed.
Generally, unless otherwise requested, arrangements are made to move our guests to/from Park Lake by way of fixed wing aircraft; sometimes (rarely) helicopters, in the event of very poor weather, can get to Park Lake when fixed wing aircraft cannot. If it is your wish and if this eventuality comes to pass, we can attempt to arrange helicopter transport, if you are prepared to pick up the extra cost. Please remember that safety is our prime concern. We will not push pilots or airlines to undercut limits, which are known to be in the best interest of all health and safety. Life is much too short for that.
The Environment
As mentioned, we are wilderness located, accessible only by air. Wildlife abounds! One may be lucky enough to see black bear, caribou, moose, muskrat, beaver, fox, marten and mink in their natural habitat.
Varieties of birds, too numerous to mention, can be observed throughout the angling season. We take pride in the fact that we don’t leave behind a single tin can; all our refuse is taken to our incinerator on a remote island where it is incinerated, stored in sealed containers and removed from the Park Lake area.
We encourage all our guests to help us in maintaining the pristine nature of Labrador.
What should I bring?
Our Labrador weather is varied, to put it bluntly. One almost has to be prepared for all seasons while fishing with us. Rain gear is an absolute must…never leave home without it.
Layered clothing is always best. Summer time weather is normally quite warm, 50-70 degrees Fahrenheit. PFDs are provided but we would recommend that anglers bring their own, should they possess same.
We do not supply fishing tackle and equipment except in the case of an emergency; anglers should bring their own gear. Insect repellant will not go astray.
Waders are not essential, but bring them if you wish to wade the rivers flowing in and out of the Lake. Guests are reminded of a 44 pound weight restriction per person.
As well, it should be noted that we do not supply soft drinks or alcoholic beverages. Should guests wish to take same to the Lodge, we recommend ordering with us in advance and we will pick up the order and have it transported to the Lake either with you, or, in advance of your arrival.
It should be noted that all bedding, linens and towels are supplied so individuals need only bring clothing and items of a personal nature.
